Featherline vs Packstack
Packstack is an open-source pack planner built with React Native. It offers a native iOS app, calorie calculations using the Pandolf load-carriage equation, and hiker profiles for individualized estimates. The project is Patreon-supported and community-driven, which means development is transparent and users can inspect the code.
The free tier is limited to two trips, which is a significant barrier when LighterPack offers unlimited lists and Featherline offers unlimited packs at no cost. Packstack also lacks offline access despite having a native app, and it does not support importing LighterPack lists, so migrating years of gear data requires manual re-entry.
Featherline differentiates itself by being free forever, offering full offline editing, and providing one-tap LighterPack import so you do not start from scratch. Our AI gear-swap is grounded in real cottage-industry products with trail context, something Packstack does not currently offer. Packstack does have a calorie calculator we do not (yet), and we respect the open-source model. Choose Packstack if you want open-source transparency and calorie planning. Choose Featherline if you want unlimited free use, offline mode, AI gear suggestions, and zero-friction migration from LighterPack.
