Featherline vs Hikt
Hikt is the most credible AI-powered competitor in the pack planner space. It offers native iOS and Android apps, real AI gear recommendations, real-time collaboration for group trips, and a persistent gear library. The free tier allows three packing lists, which covers most casual backpackers but forces thru-hikers and gear experimenters into a paid subscription quickly.
Featherline takes a different approach: everything is free forever. Unlimited packs, unlimited gear library items, and 5 AI gear-swaps per month on our dime. If you want more AI, Pro is $4.99 per month, or you can bring your own Anthropic API key and pay nothing. We do not gate the core planner behind a paywall because we believe the basic tool should be a public utility for the backpacking community.
Hikt has real-time collaboration, which Featherline does not yet offer. Hikt also has community lists you can browse and clone. If group trip planning or community discovery is your priority, Hikt is worth evaluating. If you want a completely free, no-limits pack planner with trail-aware AI, offline editing, and the ability to import any LighterPack list in seconds, Featherline is built for you.
